Green Mountain System Works has been building mobile software since 1993. We’re based in Colchester, Vermont, and we work with a small number of clients at a time — which means when you work with us, you get our full attention.

Green Mountain System Works was founded in 1993 — originally as Green Mountain Software — by people who believed that good software required deep thinking, not just good coding. That belief hasn’t changed.
We rebranded as Green Mountain System Works in 2017 to better reflect the breadth of what we do: not just software development, but systems architecture, hardware integration, and the kind of end-to-end problem solving that complex challenges actually require.
Over thirty years, we’ve built hundreds of applications across dozens of industries. We’ve worked with R&D organizations, field operations teams, researchers, funded startups, and enterprise clients. The common thread isn’t the industry — it’s the complexity of the problem.
We’re GSA-approved and a proud member of the Vermont Technology Alliance. We’re based in Colchester, Vermont, where Lou and Ann work from our home base. Our development team is small and stable — two more are here in Vermont, and two others we’ve worked with for years from other states after they relocated. We gave up our brick-and-mortar offices in 2017, when it became clear most software developers do their best work from home. The core team has stayed largely the same since — though we bring in additional expertise when a project calls for it.

Everyone who works on your project has decades of relevant experience. You won’t be handed off to junior developers once the engagement starts.
Lou founded Green Mountain Software in 1993 and has led the company through three decades of platform shifts — from early mobile to iOS and Android, from standalone apps to complex integrated systems. He brings deep technical judgment and a direct, no-nonsense approach to every engagement.
Ann leads client relationships and project delivery at GMSW, combining a strong technical background with the organizational skills to keep complex projects on track and clients well-informed. She’s been with the company for many years and brings a depth of institutional knowledge that’s rare in a firm of any size.
Beyond Lou and Ann, GMSW works with a small, stable team of senior engineers and designers — people we’ve worked with for many years and trust completely. We don’t staff up with contractors to win projects and then figure out who’s actually doing the work. The team you meet is the team that builds your software.
A few things that matter to us.
We won’t recommend a solution until we understand the problem. That means investing real time at the start of every engagement — asking hard questions, mapping the full scope, and making sure we’re solving the right thing.
We work with approximately five active clients at any given time. That’s a deliberate choice. It means your project gets our full focus, not a fraction of it.
Every person who touches your work has decades of experience. We don’t use your project to train people. You get seasoned judgment at every level, every time.
Most of our clients have worked with us across multiple projects over many years. We think in terms of partnerships, not transactions — and we build accordingly. That’s not an accident.
If your project isn’t the right fit for us — wrong type of work, wrong stage, wrong budget — we’ll tell you directly. We’d rather lose a prospect than take on a project we can’t do well.
